Ben Hewlett-Davies

Ben Hewlett-Davies was born in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire in 1991 and now lives in the centre of Birmingham. He is a keen musician and plays the Bass Trombone, Percussion and Piano. Ben is a committed brass bander and has played with bands from all over the Midlands. During his final years of school Ben gained a scholarship to study Bass Trombone at Birmingham Conservatoire. He is currently in his final year, studying Bass Trombone and Bass Sackbut under the instruction of Robert Hughes FRSM, David Vines of the CBSO and Susan Addison. Elsewhere, Ben plays in several amateur and semi-professional orchestras, wind bands and ensembles most notably, The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, Portsmouth and was the conductor of the Ratby Training Band between April 2012 and March 2014. He hopes to develop his conducting skills further when he takes over the Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Band for a concert in the spring of 2015. In his spare time, Ben plays regularly with the Bierhoff Oom Pah Band, enjoys arranging for different Conservatoire ensembles and looking after his baby boy, Noah. He hopes to pursue a career within the Royal Marines Band Service.
