Charles Maynard

Born in Oldham, Lancs in 1964, Charles started the trombone when 12 when living on Anglesey. He received scholarship lessons with Roger Harvey ( RNCM ) and studied trombone with Daniel Hannaby and composition with Dr David Harries and Mervyn Burtch at RWCMD , Cardiff 1982-1985 . Charles’ first work was published in 1987 for brass band and his music has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio Wales as well as frequently played at home and abroad.


Charles has worked for Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Music Service for over 30 years and is now senior brass teacher and head of strategic planning and events . Charles conducts the CCVG Youth Brass Band and High Schools Orchestra and remains active as a composer in the South Wales area .
