Alice Knight (b. 2003) is a conductor, composer, and horn player currently reading music at St Anne’s College, University of Oxford.
Alice spent four years studying horn, composition, and conducting at the Royal College of Music Junior Department (RCMJD) with Sue Dent, Simon Speare, Russell Hepplewhite, and Rob Hodge; she now studies horn with Richard Watkins and conducting with Dr John Traill. Whilst at RCMJD, Alice was thrilled to have a number of pieces premiered both by students and professional ensembles, including Onyx Brass and the London Sinfonietta. Additionally, she enjoys a long running association with the Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra, who have premiered several of her orchestral pieces, the second of which won her the Reading Young Talent Under 25 Award in 2017.
Alice is currently principal conductor of Oxford University Wind Orchestra, Oxford University Sinfonietta, and Oxford University Brass Band. She also performs as a horn player with Oxford University Orchestra and Ensemble ISIS. She was a member of the National Youth Orchestra for three years, the latter two as Joint Principal Horn. Aside from performing, Alice is currently a patron of Europe 101, an organisation training and connecting young leaders across the continent.
In September 2022, Alice’s work for solo horn, Fibonacci, was published by Warwick Music. It is dedicated to her horn teacher and mentor, Sue Dent, and she is delighted to be able to share it with other horn players too.
