Bob is a London based Tuba player and graduate of Birmingham Conservatoire where he studied Tuba with Graham Sibley, David Gordon-Shute and Stuart Birnie, and later Bass Trombone under Bob Hughes and David Vines. During this time Bob was Principal Tuba of the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain as well as the City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Orchestra, and in his final year was a finalist in the Brass Prize, Bernard Brown Prize and Ambache Prize.
Bob plays with the successful brass group, 'Hosen Brass' which has several residencies and with whom he has performed on Channel 4 prime time (Hollyoaks in 2013!), a variety of radio broadcasts and many U.K. venues including the Manchester Etihad Stadium. His freelance work often sees him performing with his doubling instruments, the Bass Trombone, Sousaphone and Euphonium, and has most recently included the Royal Shakespeare Company, Decibel Contemporary Music Ensemble, Hackney Colliery Band, the Trans-Siberian March Band and many more. Bob enjoys a satisfying mix of work in the worlds of Classical, Pop and Jazz.
Bob has appeared as a soloist with performing the European Premier of Barbara York’s Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra ‘Wars and Rumours of War’ in December 2012, as well as other popular works include the Gregson and Vaughan Williams Tuba Concertos.
Bob’s arrangements have been performed by a variety of brass ensembles and bands including Hosen Brass, Mow The Brass, Trans-Siberian March Band and many more.
