A class playing their pBones.

Finding the best trombone for a beginner is intimidating.

As a parent looking to get your child started with the instrument, there are options.

Lots of different options.

And if you don’t play the trombone yourself, shopping around for the correct bore size and water keys is confusing, to say the least.

If you are a music teacher or educator on the lookout for beginner trombones, quality and cost are going to be top of the agenda.

After all, you don’t want to blow your budget or end up replacing poor-quality instruments in the near future.

Our team have years of experience with beginner brass.

Along with making our pInstruments, many of our team have played, taught, and bought our fair share of beginner trombones. So to make things easier for you, we’ve got the band together and found four of the most popular beginner trombones available on Gear4Music.com.

Gear4Music Student Tenor Trombone in Bb and Beginner Pack

This pack comes equipped with all of the accessories needed to get a beginner trombone player started. Along with the study tenor trombone itself, the pack contains a music stand, a trombone stand to keep the instrument secure, a medium-bore mouthpiece, a case for easy transportation, and even slide lubricant and cleaning tools. The pack costs £199.

Yamaha YSL354 Student Trombone Beginners Pack

Yamaha’s beginner trombone is an option for those looking to learn on a premium instrument. Yamaha instruments are known for their build quality, and this model is no different. It comes equipped with a moulded case, along with a range of Gear4Music accessories: a trombone stand, a music stand, a chromatic tuner, a maintenance kit and a trombone slide lubricant. At £850, it’s a serious outlay for a beginner trombone but is sure to last.

Jupiter JTB500 Beginner Bb Trombone

If you are looking for a beginner trombone with a case to match, this model from Jupiter could be the choice for you. Like the Gear4Music and Yamaha trombones, it comes in yellow brass for a traditional look. Unlike these models, it does not ship with accessories. So to keep your instrument in good shape, you will need to clean and lubricate it. You can pick up this trombone for £580

pBone Plastic Trombone

Last but not least, it's our own take on the beginner trombone. Unlike the other instruments featured, the pBone is made from plastic. The advantage for beginners is that the pBone is much lighter and easier to handle. It does not ship with accessories such as lubricants and tuners…because it doesn’t need them! Plastic instruments are robust, making them a great fit for classrooms. The pBone is also available in a range of different colours and comes with a carry-case. You can purchase your pBone at Gear4Music for just £129

The pBone comes in a variety of colours, including black, green, red, blue, and yellow.

These are four of the many, many instruments to consider when shopping for the best beginner trombone. To learn more about trombones and the differences between plastic and brass models, you might want to check out these articles:

New call-to-action

Adam McCulloch

Adam is the Content Manager at pBone Music. This should mean that he’s the ideal person to write about himself, but he finds boasting in the third person a little awkward. He honed his word wizardry with a degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Leeds. He has since written copy for clients and businesses across the land, from awards to something beginning with “z”. He also spent a number of years as a musician. He has written pop songs and even jingles for kids, performed more first dances at weddings than you could shake a pBuzz at, and once played a gig for a pie company at The Etihad Stadium in Manchester. When he’s not reminiscing about those good old days, you might find Adam enjoying the football (although as an Everton fan, that can be difficult). He also loves spending time with his partner, Jen, and his family and friends, and sincerely hopes they feel the same way.
