But how durable, exactly, are plastic instruments? It's a question you're absolutely right to be asking, especially if you're considering getting a pTrumpet or a pBuzz for a younger (and let's face it, clumsier) member of the family.
If someone were to ask you which material can stand more punishment out of brass and plastic, you'd probably say brass, right? It's only natural to assume that brass, a metal, would be tougher and more durable than plastic!
But, and I'm sure you've already worked out where we're going with this, our plastic instruments are actually tougher than many traditional brass instruments. While we obviously can't speak for every plastic instrument out there, our own range of pInstruments are made from a virtually indestructible (and fully recyclable) ABS design. This means the likes of the pCornet, pBone, and pBugle can withstand the most brutal knocks and bumps.
If you don't believe us, check out some of the customer and YouTube reviews! The vast majority of reviews of our pInstrument line bring up durability as a major factor, because we understand that instruments made predominately for younger players need to be able to stand up to those nasty drops.
Traditional brass instruments, on the other hand, tend to be much more fragile. A dropped brass trumpet will almost certainly need a repair, while brass trombones are incredibly fragile, despite their size.
While there are of course advantages to brass instruments (and disadvantages to plastic ones), the fact is that brass is often simply too delicate to give to younger kids. If you're looking for a cheaper option that still sounds great and can take those inevitable accidents, consider a pInstrument.
