Introducing The pCorder - The Environmentally Friendly Recorder!

Written by Rich Breske | Jun 19, 2023 7:07:43 PM

The traditional plastic recorder has its permanent place in nearly every elementary music classroom. But, as thousands are made every year, they add to the carbon footprint, carry viral germs while in use, and eventually end up in a landfill. And, musically, some just don't play very well at all.

Here at pBone Music, we’re committed to making the musical journey accessible and fun for everyone. That’s why we’re the leading manufacturer of authentic plastic instruments. It’s why we’re committed to sustainability. And why we’re now proud to introduce the pCorder - our very own take on the soprano recorder for children.

Does the world need another recorder?

It might need this one - especially now.

The pCorder has also proven itself to recorder teaching specialists, with thousands already at work in classrooms in the UK. With greater opportunity for dynamic expression and a curved windway for better control, pCorder can help students learn important music skills. But this fun-to-play, vibrant red recorder is much more than a fine instrument. It is also the most (perhaps ONLY) environmentally-friendly recorder available anywhere!

Here are a few ways you can help the environment when you switch your students to pCorder:

The Only Carbon Neutral Recorder

You can buy a pCorder knowing that it’s also carbon neutral – which means the resulting carbon emissions caused by manufacturing pCorders is zero, nada, zilch!

An environmentally conscious recorder means your students can learn to play ‘Hot Cross Buns’ and you can help to cut down on the carbon footprint in your classroom. Sounds like a good deal. The pCorder even comes in a natural fiber case (wax-lined to repel moisture) that rids the classroom of plastic and cloth bags which are super high on the carbon meter.

The pCorder has Antimicrobial Protection - safer for students

pCorder also includes an antimicrobial additive that reduces the time in which germs can survive on the instrument's surface. Just like the rest of our pInstruments, the pCorder is manufactured with antimicrobial technology that kills microorganisms and inhibits their growth. This doesn’t mean you never need to clean it, but it goes a long way toward keeping the germs at bay. pCorder is also easy to clean and is dishwasher safe.

The pCorder is Reusable and Recyclable

There are, as we’ve mentioned, a lot of plastic recorders in the world. Yes, plastic can be awful for the environment. So what's the difference? First, the pCorder is reusable - dishwasher safe and easy to clean -  so the instrument can be reused year to year.  We make the pCorder from fully recyclable ABS plastic, just like the rest of our instruments. Once the pCorder has fully served its purpose, it is recyclable in most municipal recycling programs.

It’s Created and Crafted in the UK

It's important to know where your musical resources come from.  The designers and manufacturers of the pCorder are all located in Great Britain. This "hands-on" opportunity assures you that quality control is exactly where it needs to be.

Long before the plastic recorder started being mass-produced in the 1960s, it was an instrument with some style. While we can’t promise ours have been hand-carved from exquisite wood by master craftsmen, the pCorder boasts a striking, modern design that’s just as lightweight and easy to use as any other recorder out there.
