Peter Lawrance started his musical studies in Leicestershire where he was a member of the Leicestershire School's Symphony Orchestra. He received an L.E.A. award to study the horn with James Brown at the Royal Academy of Music after which he attended Liverpool and Reading Universities, studying composition with Hugh Wood and the horn with James Eastham.

Peter has played the horn in symphony, chamber and opera orchestras across the country as well as working in colleges and schools in the Midlands and Greater Manchester area, where he was head of an Instrumental Teaching Service. He has also been an examiner for the Guildhall School of Music.

Now working as a composer and arranger, his output is divided three ways between commissioned material for bands and orchestras, musicals for schools and youth theatre groups and educational material for publication. He has regularly been commissioned to write music, articles and short stories for educational journals. His music is in the current examination syllabi of all of the London Colleges.
