Paul Clay grew up in Northampton, where he played the trumpet in county jazz and wind ensembles. He studied composition with Anthony Gilbert and Paul Newland at the Royal Northern College of Music, from which he graduated in 2003. Since then he has concentrated on a career in music education, specialising in contemporary music and jazz.

He currently works at St Bede’s School, East Sussex, but is moving back to the North to take up a post at Winstanley College, Wigan.

His works have been performed by the London Sinfonietta, Contiuum Ensemble and Steve Martland Band, and a new piece for jazz sextet is available on the 6Pac release Last Mnute Changes (www.6paconline.com)
